Chipmunk

Tue Jun 10, 2008, 7:39 PM
My cat Mandy meowed all low-pitched and gurgly-like. She was carrying something small and furry in her mouth. She had brought a chipmunk into the house, and it was still alive, little legs fidgeting!

Suddenly, the chipmunk wiggled free from Mandy's jaws, and it dashed hurriedly downstairs! Mandy chased it into our little office, where the chipmunk hid behind a counter. Her tail wagging, Mandy waited for it to come out.

I didn't want the poor chipmunk to be eaten, so I locked Mandy in the basement. Me and my bro opened the front and back door, hoping the chipmunk would escape. But it was just too afraid to move. :(

So, me and my bro tried shooing it out. The chipmunk raced out of the office, crossed into the family room, made a sudden left toward the foyer, headed toward the front door----when it suddenly got freaked out by a car driving past the house. So, the chipmunk made a sharp turn and ran to my dining table instead. *slaps forehead*

Pearl, who appeared mysteriously near the dining table, pretty much dribbled the chipmunk like a soccer ball! My dad saw the little brawl, and screamed, "PEARL!" Pearl then stopped what she was doing, and the chipmunk zipped away again. It ran underneath my living room couch.

So, I locked Pearl in my room, and we kept the front door and back door open. Hours later, my brother claimed to have seen a chipmunk outside, and it looked exactly like the one in the house. Wait, does that mean it's gone? We looked under the living room couch, let alone the whole house, only to find the critter gone. So, it ran out when no one was looking? Score!

Two days later, my cousin came to visit. In the kitchen, he saw Mandy wagging her tail while sitting in front of bunched potted plants. Behind those pots, my cousin found It! That chipmunk my bro saw outside was NOT the same one! Was it part of the chipmunk's family, then, waiting for the little guy to come home?

Well, I locked both my cats in the basement. We opened the front and back door again. Me, my cousin, mom, and dad blocked off every route of the house, except for doors leading outside. My brother shooed the chipmunk out. The chipmunk went scrambling across the kitchen like the floor was ice. It was about to run through my cousin's legs--until it realized what a giant he was, and then it turned right and raced out the door to the backyard.

We celebrated. :)
